Newly appointed French Prime Minister Sébastien Le Corneille has unveiled his cabinet. The new cabinet retains most of the ministers from President Emmanuel Macron’s team, and Le Corneille’s main task is to agree on a reduced budget after the political crisis that led to the resignation of his predecessor.
This is reported by Politico .
According to journalists, Sebastian Lecornu, who recently led the French government after a vote of no confidence in the previous prime minister, has presented a new cabinet. Despite expectations of significant changes, most of the key positions remain with the same politicians as before.
Former Industry Minister Roland Lescure, known as a close ally of President Macron, has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Economy, replacing Eric Lombard.
The biggest surprise was the return to the government of former Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire. The politician, who announced the end of his career last year, has now headed the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the very position that Le Corneille himself previously held.
The government also retained several prominent figures: Education Minister Elisabeth Born, Overseas Minister Manuel Valls (both former prime ministers), as well as Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin, and Budget Minister Amélie de Montchalin.
Thus, the political composition of the government has not actually changed – it continues to be based on President Macron’s centrist camp. Sébastien Le Corneille has become the fifth prime minister of France in less than two years, which indicates serious political turbulence in the country.
The main challenge for the new government will be to agree on a reduced budget, which should help stabilize the economy after lengthy debates and a crisis of confidence in parliament.
It is worth adding that on the evening of September 9, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Defense Minister Sébastien Le Corneille as the country’s new prime minister . The appointment followed the fall of François Bayrou’s government after parliament voted no confidence in his cabinet. Le Corneille, a longtime Macron supporter, became France’s fifth prime minister in less than two years.
