French ship becomes first to venture through Strait of Hormuz after Middle East hostilities begin
A container ship from the French company CMA CGM became the first ship from Western Europe to pass through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the Iran war.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
The vessel in question is the CMA CGM Kribi, which departed from the Dubai area on April 2 towards Iran. During its passage, it kept close to the Iranian coast and moved through the approved sea corridor between the islands of Qeshm and Larak.
In the morning, the ship already signaled that it had successfully passed the strait and was near Muscat.
Since the beginning of March, the CMA CGM Kribi, like many other foreign vessels, has been idle in the Persian Gulf. Due to the worsening situation in the region, commercial activity there has declined sharply.
CMA CGM reported that 14 of their ships currently remain in the Persian Gulf and cannot pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
It was previously reported that Ukraine is ready to join in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz and strengthening shipping safety.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that countries affected by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz should “take their oil” themselves.
