From FPV to deep strike: The Ministry of Defense codified 650 unmanned systems

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved 650 unmanned aerial systems for use in the Defense Forces since the beginning of 2026. Most of them are produced by Ukrainian companies.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The largest number of new models are copter-type strike drones. Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Defense has codified 238 such UAVs. They allow relatively inexpensive and accurate strikes on the manpower and equipment of Russian troops on the front line.

Also, 231 drones with a fiber-optic control channel were allowed for use. The main advantage of such drones is their resistance to electronic warfare, since they do not require a radio channel to control them.

The defense forces also received the opportunity to use 42 new interceptor drones. They are designed to destroy enemy drones and can become a cheaper alternative to traditional air defenses when fighting certain types of aerial targets.

Separately, the Ministry of Defense codified 32 middle strike drones. Such drones can attack targets in the operational rear of Russian troops, including logistical facilities.

Another nine codified drones belong to the deep strike category. They are used for strikes at considerable distances, including against targets deep inside Russian territory.
