From October, the asylum fee for Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will be doubled: what is the reason?

From October 1, 2025, the Netherlands will more than double the amount of monthly asylum contributions for Ukrainian refugees.
This was reported by NOS with reference to Minister of Asylum and Migration Mona Keizer.
Thus, currently, refugees from Ukraine pay 105 euros per month for municipal shelter, however, it is planned that this amount will increase to 244 euros in the fall.
In addition, adult Ukrainians living in the points where they are being prepared will pay a contribution for food in the amount of 252 euros.
It is noted that the largest contribution for families with two adults will be 992 euros per month.
As the minister explained, the fee increase is necessary to cover the shelter’s operating costs, including gas, water, and electricity.
At the same time, in this way, the Dutch government will try to reduce inequality between displaced persons from Ukraine and asylum seekers from other countries.
Recall that earlier the European Union extended the temporary protection mechanism for Ukrainians until March 2027.
