From the Kyiv Reservoir to Sumy: How Ukraine Prepares for Defense

Ukraine is actively strengthening its northern front, building a large-scale defensive line that will stretch from the Kyiv Reservoir all the way to Sumy. The main goal is to prevent a new offensive from Russia.

This was stated by the Chief of the Engineering Troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Support Forces Command, Brigadier General Vasyl Syrotenko, in a comment to Ukrinform.

According to him, Sumy has already managed to prepare a serious defense with several lines of defense.

“In a short period of time, we managed to create a truly echeloned and stable defense. This is visible – even from space you can watch it being built,” he noted.

In parallel, construction of a continuous defensive line is underway on a large area from the Kyiv Reservoir to Sumy. These are not separate fortifications, but a complex system in which significant resources are being invested.

As explained by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this line must solve several tasks at once: to prevent a sudden attack from the north, to prevent the enemy from creating a “buffer zone”, and to prevent Ukrainian forces from being pushed away from the border.

“We are doing everything to build this defense as soon as possible, involving maximum forces and resources,” Syrotenko emphasized.

As a reminder, the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council stated that Russia is considering several scenarios for further waging war against Ukraine . Among them are the continuation of hostilities until 2028, freezing the conflict, or expanding the confrontation.

By the way, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated about the risk of Belarus being drawn into a war against Ukraine amid increased military activity on the border.
