Frosts are retreating: Ukraine will be covered with snowfall and freezing rain

Frosts in Ukraine will gradually weaken, and by the end of the week the country will be covered with snowfalls and in places freezing rain. The air temperature will rise to -2…0 °C, pluses are possible in some regions.

On Friday, December 26, Arctic air will begin to retreat from the north to the south and west. At night, frosts will persist in most regions to -6…-8°C, during the day the temperature will rise to -5°C, and in the north – to 0…+1°C. Almost the entire country will be covered in snow, the most intense precipitation is expected in Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

On Saturday, December 27, at night the temperature will fluctuate within -1…-3°C, in Donetsk region it will get colder to -7°C. In the afternoon, snowfalls will cover eastern Ukraine, the temperature will drop to 0…-1°C. In the south and Transcarpathia, the air will warm up to +3°C, and in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, slight frosts will persist – to -1…-3°C. In Rivne region, freezing rains are possible, which will turn into snow. Precipitation is also expected in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Ternopil regions and in Prykarpattia.

On Sunday, December 28, at night in most regions the temperature will be +1…-2°C. Stronger frosts down to -6°C will persist in the east, as well as in Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. In the afternoon, thermometers will show around 0°C, the warmest will be in Transcarpathia and Odessa regions – up to +3°C. In Luhansk, Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions, frosts down to -4°C will persist during the day.

A new wave of snowfall will cover Ukraine throughout Sunday. The heaviest precipitation is forecast in Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhia regions.

As previously reported, worsening weather conditions are forecast in the Zaporizhia region on December 26. Forecasters warn of strong winds, blizzards, and icy roads.

Let us remind you that dry and cold air has arrived in Ukraine from the Barents Sea, and a further decrease in temperature and the peak of the first wave of frost are expected on December 25.
