Frosty Christmas: Forecasters warn of significant cold snap

On Christmas Day, December 25, frosty and dry weather will set in in Ukraine. No precipitation is forecast, but icy conditions will persist on the roads.

This was reported by meteorologist Natalia Didenko.

According to her, overnight temperatures in most regions will drop to -5 to -13°C, and during the day, -3 to -8°C. The warmest temperatures will be in Transcarpathia and Crimea, around 0°C. An anticyclone will shape the weather, so clear or partly cloudy conditions with no snow are expected.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained that the cold, precipitation-free weather was caused by a high-pressure field centered over the North Sea and the influx of cold air from the north. Winds were northwesterly, 5-10 m/s.

In Kyiv, the temperature at night will drop to -10°, and during the day it will be -3…-4°.

The coldest temperatures will be in the east of the country, with nighttime temperatures in some places reaching -12 to -13°C and daytime temperatures of -2 to -5°C. In the northern regions, nighttime temperatures of -8 to -11°C and daytime temperatures of -2 to -4°C are forecast. In the central regions, nighttime temperatures of -7 to -10°C and daytime temperatures of -2 to -4°C are expected.

Temperatures in the west of the country will be somewhat milder: -8 to -10°C at night, up to -11°C in the Carpathians, -2 to -4°C during the day, and down to -1°C in some places. In the south, nighttime lows are forecast at -6 to -8°C, and daytime lows of 0 to -2°C. Crimea will be the warmest: -4 to -6°C at night, and daytime lows of 0 to +2°C.

According to weather forecasters, atmospheric fronts will arrive in Ukraine as early as December 26th, bringing snow, stronger winds, and a gradual increase in air temperatures.
