Diluted gasoline has been spotted at gas stations in Russia. This is causing car breakdowns and panic among drivers. The situation is directly related to the fuel shortage, which has only been worsening in recent weeks.
As The Moscow Times reports, citing the head of the Union of Auto Service Centers of the Russian Federation, Yuri Valko, due to the shortage of fuel, manufacturers have begun to save on fuel quality. According to him, against the background of the impossibility of raising prices, companies are trying to increase the octane number with the help of various additives. As a result, such “experiments” are already leading to car breakdowns – primarily cars of the Chinese brand Geely, whose owners are massively complaining about malfunctions.
“Russian gasoline producers began to save on quality due to the inability to raise prices. There is a connection between these rumors and what happened. Many began to increase the octane number through some additives due to the economic situation against the background of shortages in certain regions,” Valko explained.
According to him, similar cases already occurred in Russia at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s, when some gas stations also abused additives to make fuel cheaper.
The current problems are due to increased Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. Since the beginning of October alone, Ukrainian drones have struck refineries at least four times, disabling them. There were eight such attacks in September, and fourteen in August. From August to the end of September, at least 10 enterprises were forced to partially or completely stop work, which led to the loss of more than 10% of the total capacity of Russian oil refining.
As a reminder, fuel shortages are increasing on the temporarily occupied peninsula. In Simferopol and other cities of Crimea, A95 gasoline has disappeared from gas stations , causing some gas stations to close.
At the same time, it recently became known that all brands of gasoline have disappeared from gas stations in temporarily occupied Crimea .
By the way, in temporarily occupied Crimea , the number of gas stations selling gasoline has decreased by 50%.
