Funds for the restoration of the Trypillia CHP were misappropriated: police exposed large-scale corruption worth 50 million hryvnias
Law enforcement officers have exposed a group of individuals who embezzled over 50 million hryvnias allocated for emergency and restoration work at the Trypillya CHPP. Six suspects have been notified of suspicion and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the heads of 2 contracting companies that performed construction and installation work at heat-generating facilities were involved in organizing the illegal scheme.
The investigation found that contractors purchased materials from controlled companies, where their cost was 30 percent higher than the market price. As a result, about 50 million hryvnias were withdrawn and cashed into the accounts of affiliated companies.
During searches at the residences and offices of the suspects, law enforcement officers discovered and seized computer equipment, mobile phones, draft documentation with evidence of illegal activity, as well as cash in the amount of over 19 million hryvnias.
Investigators of the Kyiv Region Police Investigation Department under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported 6 individuals on suspicion of embezzlement, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position, committed on a particularly large scale by an organized group, as well as legalization of property obtained by criminal means.
We will remind that former Minister of Energy and Justice Herman Galushchenko was officially declared a suspect in the “Midas” case . He was detained while trying to leave the territory of Ukraine, the investigation is ongoing.
As previously reported, NABU and SAPO sent documents for Interpol to put businessmen Timur Mindich and Oleksandr Zukerman, defendants in the “Midas” case regarding corruption in the energy sector, on the wanted list .
The day before, it became known that NABU and SAPO are conducting a large-scale operation “Midas” to expose corruption in the energy sector . According to the investigation, the activities of a high-level criminal organization were established, which controlled financial flows and personnel decisions in state energy structures.
