In the first half of 2025, 805 new funeral companies were registered in Russia – 16% more than in the same period last year.

This is reported by the Kommersant publication with reference to data from the Kontur.Focus service.

The largest increase was recorded in the Moscow region – 57 new offices were opened, which is a third more than a year earlier. In the Krasnodar region, 42 new funeral companies appeared, which is 22% more than last year.

According to the results of January-April 2025, the volume of the funeral services market in the Russian Federation increased by 12.7% – to 39.5 billion rubles, according to Rosstat.

Industry representatives explain the dynamics not only by the increase in mortality, but also by the increased margin of the business. According to them, the demand for turnkey services, long-distance transportation of bodies, cremation and memorial goods is growing. At the same time, some clients ask to limit themselves to the basic package with state compensation.

Recall that since July, Russia has stopped publishing population figures, the number of births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, so as not to draw attention to the demographic crisis.

As reported, tensions are rising in Russian power circles — one after another, high-profile arrests, mysterious deaths, and criminal proceedings are engulfing even the elite . The latest incident — the suicide of former Minister of Transport and ex-Governor of Kursk Oblast Roman Starovoit — has stunned the highest echelons of power.
