G7 summit in Paris: European leaders to discuss ‘five main points’ for peace in Ukraine with Trump

The Group of Seven summit will be held in Evian, France, from June 15-17. During the meeting, participants plan to discuss possible peace talks regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to sources, during the summit with Donald Trump, five main points related to a diplomatic settlement of the conflict are to be discussed.
The German government believes that Ukraine is now in a stronger position, and Russia is not capable of achieving victory through military means. The interlocutor noted that the Russian economy is facing difficulties, which creates the prerequisites for intensifying diplomatic efforts.
“Today, Ukraine is in a new position of strength. Russia cannot win militarily. Its economy is struggling. Therefore, for the first time, a window of opportunity for diplomacy may slowly open. This was discussed in London at a meeting. Together, they formulated five main points that will also be discussed in Evian with President Trump,” the source said.
According to the interlocutor, it is now important to determine how close the positions of the US and European countries are regarding a possible diplomatic process.
The source also noted that the most difficult issue remains determining Europe’s representation in the event of the start of real peace negotiations.
“We believe that in the case of real peace talks, the most likely format will be “Ukraine, Russia, the US and Europe”. The most difficult question is who speaks for Europe. There is no final answer at the moment. Both efficiency and legitimacy are needed. Efficiency means: not too large a format. Legitimacy means close coordination with Ukraine, the US and European partners,” the source noted.
At the same time, the interlocutor expressed doubt that an agreement will be reached between Ukraine and the G7 countries on a new initiative for peace negotiations during the G7 summit.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet in France on June 16 as part of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains . The leaders are expected to meet during working sessions, although separate bilateral talks are not planned.
