Occupation authorities in the Luhansk region have restricted gasoline sales at gas stations, citing a sharp increase in demand and the risk of fuel shortages.
The Russian news agency Interfax reported this, citing a statement from the occupation administration.
According to the new regulations, no more than 20 liters of gasoline will be allowed per vehicle or person. The occupation “government” claims the restrictions are temporary and will remain in effect until fuel and lubricant supplies to the region stabilize.
“The restrictions will be lifted once the fuel supply situation in the republic improves,” occupation authorities stated.
Similar measures were previously introduced in the temporarily occupied Crimea. At the end of May, gasoline sales there were also limited to 20 liters per person.
According to The Moscow Times, the fuel shortages are linked to regular Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, as well as the logistical complications resulting from the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ increased control over the R-280 “Novorossiya” highway, which connects Rostov-on-Don with occupied Crimea.
