Germany has begun independent production of Patriot missiles: will they be able to transfer them to Ukraine?

Germany has launched its own production of Patriot missiles for air defense systems, independent of the United States. The move could allow Berlin to independently transfer missiles to Ukraine in the future without approval from Washington.

This is reported by hromadske .

The head of the special staff for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, General Christian Freuding, said that Germany has opened a new production line for the manufacture of missiles for Patriot air defense systems, which is independent of the United States.

The move is seen as a strategic breakthrough that will allow Europe, and Germany in particular, to strengthen defense autonomy and increase support for Ukraine in the war with Russia. Production has already started, and the first missiles manufactured at German facilities are expected in 2026–2027.

When asked by journalists about the possibility of supplying these missiles to Ukraine without the consent of the United States, Freuding noted that the line is independent, and therefore European. This allows Berlin to independently make decisions on the transfer of ammunition without prior permission from Washington.

This initiative became possible against the backdrop of the active strengthening of the German defense industry and consistent support for Ukraine. In particular, Germany has already transferred several Patriot batteries to Kyiv and is one of the main suppliers of air defense systems for the Ukrainian army.

The launch of independent production could also positively impact the pan-European ability to respond quickly to threats emerging on NATO’s eastern flank.

It was previously reported that the first Ukrainian long-range missiles, purchased with German funds, will enter service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the end of July.

By the way, Germany has officially launched financing for the production of long-range drones for Ukraine . The contract provides for the supply of more than 500 Antonov-196 aircraft.

Recall that Germany plans to provide Ukraine with more than 100 million euros for the development and production of An-196 attack drones , which will be able to fly over a distance of more than 2,000 kilometers.
