Germany has transferred another IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine to protect against missiles and drones

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have received another IRIS-T SLM air defense system from Germany. It can intercept cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, including jet drones.

This was reported by German Aid to Ukraine, citing its own sources.

The new IRIS-T SLM is the second system that Germany has delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force this year. In total, Ukraine has received 11 such systems since the start of the full-scale invasion.

By the end of the year, Germany should transfer another IRIS-T SLM to Ukraine.

The IRIS-T SLM system is designed to combat aerial targets, including cruise missiles and drones. According to German Aid to Ukraine, the average successful interception rate is about 95%. There are also known cases of interception of ballistic missiles.

The full Ukrainian IRIS-T firing unit includes three IRIS-T SLM launchers, two IRIS-T SLS launchers, a TRML-4D radar station, a tactical operations center, and support vehicles.

In the future, Germany also plans to add two IRIS-T launchers to each already transferred and future firing unit.

It was previously reported that Poland is preparing a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth a total of 50 million euros. Part of the funds will be directed to air defense equipment.

In addition,the Finnish government will provide Ukraine with the 34th military aid package worth a total of about 290 million euros. In terms of funding, it is the second largest package from Helsinki.
