The death of a scientist at the Russian Anti-Plague Institute in Irkutsk has raised concerns about a possible plague outbreak. Germany is demanding an explanation from Moscow and is considering additional security measures, including strict travel restrictions to Russia.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, BILD reports.

The incident occurred in a laboratory at the Anti-Plague Research Institute in Irkutsk, where one of its employees died. According to the official Russian government, the cause of death was pneumonia. Meanwhile, another suspicious case was recorded in the region.

Wadeful called on Russian authorities to provide comprehensive information about the event and emphasized that the international community is awaiting responses from Moscow.

According to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, various security measures are being considered to protect Europe. Specifically, he did not rule out strict travel restrictions to Russia, stating that Berlin cannot risk the safety of its citizens.
