Germany is ready to help Ukraine determine which Ukrainian men of military age are currently on its territory. Berlin believes that such men should return to Ukraine, but emphasizes that this should be done without coercion.
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful in an interview with Bild.
According to him, the German authorities already have data that can help determine the whereabouts of Ukrainians. This includes information on receiving social benefits, registration, and residence status.
“We know who lives here. Who, for example, receives social benefits, who is registered or has a residence status,” said Vadeful.
In his opinion, this data can be used to enable the Ukrainian authorities to reach out to men of military age and invite them to return to Ukraine. At the same time, the minister separately emphasized that the return should take place without coercion.
Recall that martial law and general mobilization are in effect in Ukraine. Currently, men liable for military service between the ages of 25 and 60 are subject to conscription. At the same time, the law provides for a number of cases when a person can receive a deferment.
As reported, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is discussing possible changes to mobilization approaches, in particular, establishing a new upper age limit for conscription. This refers to a possible restriction on the mobilization of citizens after reaching the age of 50 or 55.
