Germany “lost” almost a billion euros allocated for aid to Ukraine — media
Germany’s defense project for 2025 lacks almost a billion euros allocated for aid to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Bild newspaper.
As noted, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius previously announced that the amount of aid to Ukraine next year would be 9.2 billion euros. However, as it turned out, the official project included 8.3 billion euros.
On June 18, the German Defense Ministry announced that part of the funds, amounting to 7.3 billion euros, had already been approved, and the remaining 1.9 billion were planned additionally.
However, officials currently assure that all funds have already been included in the project, so the amount of aid is 8.3 billion.
In a comment to the publication, a representative of the Ministry of Defense explained the lack of part of the funds by saying that this is the so-called co-financing and reimbursement from the European Peace Fund.
“In the end, it will still come out to about 9 billion,” the ministry emphasized.
The Bundestag was surprised by such explanations. They noted that “it is unclear where the agency plans to get the relevant funds from.”
“Ukraine does not need promises, but real support,” summed up MP Sebastian Schaefer.
As a reminder, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil announced that the federal government has approved the draft budget for 2025, which includes a record amount of military aid to Ukraine — 8.3 billion euros .
By the way, Boris Pistorius stated that Germany will not transfer TAURUS missiles to Kyiv , but instead plans additional investments in production.
