Germany prepares thousands of drones and IRIS-T missiles for Ukraine after Leipzig incident

Germany is preparing a new boost in military aid to Ukraine after the incident with a Russian drone at Leipzig airport. As early as September, Kyiv may receive additional missiles for the IRIS-T air defense systems and several thousand attack drones.
This was reported by t-online, citing a source in the German government.
According to the publication, Germany plans to transfer additional missiles for IRIS-T to Ukraine within a month. Several thousand attack drones may arrive “in the near future.” It is not yet clear which UAVs Ukraine will receive.
In addition to supplying weapons, Berlin plans to strengthen intelligence cooperation with Ukraine. The German government said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz played a key role in holding Russia responsible for the Leipzig incident and determining Germany’s next steps.
“In recent months, Ukraine has achieved significant military successes, largely thanks to German assistance. We must be prepared for further, including escalating, hybrid attacks from Russia,” the government said.
According to the publication, Germany is simultaneously preparing new sanctions against Russia.
As a reminder, several improvised explosive and incendiary devices were discovered in the federal state of Brandenburg, near the Jenschwalde coal-fired power plant. Law enforcement officers are investigating a possible attempt to damage energy infrastructure.
As reported,Germany officially declared Russia responsible for the attempted sabotage at Leipzig/Halle airport. In early August, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
In addition, two disturbing incidents occurred in Germany overnight: an unidentified object exploded at Augsburg’s main train station, injuring two people, and at a substation near Cologne, police suspected deliberate damage to equipment.
It should be noted that Germany has announced tough measures in response to the Russian attack on planes at Leipzig airport. Berlin plans to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and the cultural center “Russian House” in Berlin.
