German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius proposed a new military cooperation agreement with Japan during a meeting in Yokosuka. The initiative would simplify the deployment of troops from both countries on each other’s territory.
This is reported by Politico .
Pistorius said that Berlin had proposed a so-called mutual access agreement, which would simplify the exchange of military personnel and reduce bureaucratic procedures.
“This will facilitate the exchange of soldiers between our countries and significantly reduce bureaucratic obstacles,” said Boris Pistorius.
Such agreements allow partners to more easily deploy troops on each other’s territory for exercises, training, or operations.
Pistorius noted that the initiative is part of a broader response to global instability, including events in Iran and the Middle East.
“Freedom of sea lanes must be guaranteed and protected,” said Boris Pistorius.
According to him, Germany and Japan share a common interest in ensuring the security of global trade routes and upholding international order.
