Germany sells Leopard tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Brazil, which Ukraine allegedly refused – media
Germany has offered Brazil dozens of Leopard 2A6 tanks and Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicles. According to local media reports, Ukraine has allegedly refused these vehicles.
This is reported by the publication Tecno&Defesa .
In total, there are 65 used Leopard 2A6 tanks and 78 Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicles. The publication notes that these are the models currently being offered to Brazil and that the Ukrainian side had previously refused to purchase them.
At the same time, the publication does not provide any confirmations or comments from Ukrainian or German representatives.
The resource German Aid To Ukraine, which tracks the supply of military aid to Ukraine from Germany, was skeptical about such reports. Journalists note that the equipment in question is from Bundeswehr warehouses with a high degree of wear and tear.
Given the ongoing difficulties of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in obtaining spare parts for German weapons, the source believes that “a refusal announcement from the Ukrainian government would make at least partial sense.”
The Ukrainian portal Defense Express also urges caution in handling this information. Analysts note that this is a large batch of equipment for which no official statements have been made before.
At the same time, experts do not rule out that the failure could have occurred due to the technical condition of the vehicles. According to the Brazilian publication, the cost of used Leopard 2A6s is estimated at approximately fifteen million euros per unit, and the Marder infantry fighting vehicles are estimated at about ten million euros.
“The price is actually for the “bare” machines without taking into account technical support. This is less than for new models, but it looks overpriced if you take into account the wear and tear of the equipment,” Defense Express analysts noted.
It was previously reported that the German government plans to increase financial assistance to Ukraine by three billion euros in 2026. The funds will be used to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian army.
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense with Patriot systems . According to him, this step was the result of agreements with Germany, which have already been implemented.
