The German government has decided to suspend arms exports to Israel in response to Tel Aviv’s announced plan to take control of the Gaza Strip.
This was stated by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, quoted by The Times of Israel.
“The German government will not approve any export to Israel of military equipment that could be used in the Gaza Strip, to be further informed,” Merz stressed.
The Chancellor noted that the main priorities for Berlin remain the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, as well as support for peace negotiations to achieve a ceasefire.
At the same time, he expressed deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the suffering of the civilian population as a result of the fighting.
Recall that in early July, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel had agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. According to him, US representatives held “lengthy and constructive” negotiations with the Israeli side.
