Germany supports Ukraine’s efforts to restrict the travel of men of military age to European Union countries.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“This is absolutely necessary so that Ukraine can defend itself,” the German official explained.
In addition, according to him, such a step will ensure unity in Ukrainian society and help in the reconstruction process.
“We see tangible progress here in the interest of both sides,” Merz added.
Among other things, the Chancellor stated that Germany wants to help Ukrainian citizens who have been granted asylum return to their homeland.
As previously reported, Germany is likely considering the option of deporting Ukrainian men from the country when their temporary protection status expires.
By the way, a spokesman for the European Commission stated that the issue of the forced return of Ukrainian men of military age who are under temporary protection in the EU is not currently being considered .
