German law enforcement officers believe that the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea could have been carried out by a Ukrainian unit led by the then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny. According to the investigation, the idea to destroy the Russian pipelines arose back in May 2022.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal .

The journalists noted that German police, prosecutors and other investigators had built a “clear picture” of the operation allegedly carried out by a group of Ukrainian military personnel. According to them, the attacks took place under the direct leadership of General Valeriy Zaluzhny.

The key piece of evidence in the case, according to the publication, was a grainy black-and-white photo taken with a high-speed camera. The image captured the face of a Ukrainian deep-sea diver. Using facial recognition software, police identified him and discovered connections to other suspects.

According to sources, the diver was tracked down in Poland and then transported to Ukraine in a BMW with diplomatic license plates. The Ukrainian military attaché in Warsaw was reportedly driving.

Investigators obtained a copy of the man’s passport with identifying information — he is 46-year-old SBU veteran Serhiy Kuznetsov. He joined the special forces on the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion and commanded an air defense unit during the fighting for Kyiv.

As is known, on September 26, 2022, explosions occurred in the Baltic Sea on three of the four strands of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. The tremors were recorded by seismic stations in Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. The incident led to the destruction of a key element of Europe’s energy infrastructure.

We will remind, earlier in the Polish city of Pruszków, police detained a Ukrainian whom Germany suspects of sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipeline .

Subsequently, a Polish court refused to extradite to Germany Ukrainian Volodymyr Zh., who is suspected of involvement in the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, and canceled his preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest.
