Germany will allocate 50 million euros to restore the protective arch of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a Russian strike in February 2025.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The protective arch, or New Safe Confinement, covers the destroyed Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Unit 4. The structure was damaged after the Russian strike and needs to be restored.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development previously estimated the cost of the works at around 500 million euros. Germany’s contribution would therefore cover around a tenth of the amount needed.
The European Commission, the United States, and Norway are also ready to help with the restoration of confinement.
As a reminder, on the night of June 7, a Russian drone attacked the site of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility . The impact damaged the container reception building, but the radiation background remains within normal limits.
As reported, Norway will allocate about $10 million to restore the protective sarcophagus over the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was damaged as a result of a Russian drone attack.
