The German government will not resume the transportation of Russian gas through Nord Stream 1 and will not launch Nord Stream 2.
This was announced at a press conference on Monday by the Deputy Spokesperson of the German Government, Sebastian Hille.
“You know our position on this issue: the federal government clearly assumes that Nord Stream will not be put into operation,” the spokesman said, adding that such a brief response indicates the government’s attitude to the problem.
Hille made his comments amid reports that the debt of the gas pipeline operator, Nord Stream 2 AG, a subsidiary of the Russian monopolist Gazprom, was repaid by American businessman Stephen Lynch.
Such actions by the businessman should have allowed the pipeline to be removed from Russian influence and used to supply gas to Europe.
Lynch, according to media reports, arrived in Berlin for negotiations on this issue. It should be noted that the government may not influence the decisions of private companies.
It was previously reported that former Nord Stream 2 CEO and Putin’s friend Matthias Warnig is developing a plan to restart the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Europe with the support of American investors .
