Germany remains the largest European donor of military aid to Ukraine. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Berlin has provided Kyiv with around forty billion euros.

Germany’s budget for 2026 already includes €8.5 billion in aid to Ukraine. However, the finance and defense ministries plan to add another €3 billion during the final budget adjustment.

“We will continue our support for as long as necessary to protect against Russia’s aggressive war,” a government source told the agency.

Additional funding will be used to purchase artillery systems, drones, armored vehicles, and to replace two Patriot air defense systems.

According to sources, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has supported the initiative. Final agreement on the new aid package is expected to take place in the near future.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense with Patriot systems . According to him, this step was the result of agreements with Germany, which have already been implemented.

Recall that Germany is allocating 60 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure. The funds will help accelerate the delivery of generators, energy equipment, and mobile thermal power plants.

The day before, Germany financed about 30,000 unguided and approximately 3,000 guided 70-mm missiles for Ukraine , which became one of the most notable supplies of Western weapons of this type.
