Giant asteroid flies at breakneck speed: NASA recorded the approach of a dangerous asteroid

On August 20, a cosmic body — asteroid 1997 QK1 — will rapidly approach Earth. Its dimensions are impressive: according to NASA, the object is over 320 meters long — almost the size of three football fields.
This was reported by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The threat is not imaginary: although the celestial body will pass by our planet at a distance of about 3 million kilometers, it is on the list of potentially dangerous. And for good reason – any asteroid of this size that approaches closer than 7.5 million km causes concern among scientists.
“Object 1997 QK1 meets both critical criteria: both massive and fairly close. If it were to collide with Earth, the consequences could be catastrophic,” NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory warns.
Fortunately, a direct collision is not predicted, but this flyby is another reminder of how vulnerable our planet can be in the face of cosmic elements.
