The security service exposed FSB agents in Kyiv who were preparing an assassination attempt on journalist Dmytro Gordon.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
The Russians tasked an undercover agent in Kyiv, a 36-year-old Russian citizen from the Caucasus, with preparing the assassination. He arrived in Ukraine before the full-scale invasion under the guise of a political exile.
“For greater conspiracy, the Russian special services fabricated criminal cases against him and put him on the wanted list. After the start of the full-scale war, the defendant received a task from the curator: to create intelligence and combat groups in Kyiv from people from the North Caucasus,” the Security Service reported.
The coordinator of the Russian agents purchased several cars, disguised them as a taxi service, and equipped them with video recorders. The agents spied on Gordon from behind the wheel of these cars.
“According to the FSB’s plan, after attacking the victim with a firearm, the killer was to quickly flee the scene, get rid of the means of the crime, and “go to the bottom.” To do this, the resident was looking for a motorcycle. The SBU counterintelligence worked ahead of time and detained the resident and all members of the intelligence and combat groups at the stage of preparation for the assassination attempt,” the report says.
It was established that the suspects received additional tasks to correct enemy fire and “order” foreign volunteers in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among them was a Russian fighting in the RDK.
It is worth noting that the agents were promised $400,000 for carrying out the assassination attempt on the Ukrainian journalist.
The detained agents were charged with a terrorist act and face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of their property.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that last year, an attempt was made to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Rzeszow airport in Poland .
