On December 18, the UK government announced a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, targeting the energy sector.

The updated list of restrictions has been published on the official website of the British government.

The sanctions list has been expanded by 24 items. These include five individuals and 19 companies that, according to London, are involved in supporting the Russian energy industry and generating revenues used by the Kremlin.

In particular, a number of oil companies from Russia, including Tatneft, Russneft, Rusneftegaz, NNK-Oil, as well as the Gelion Business Trade structure registered in Uzbekistan, were subject to restrictive measures.

As Bloomberg reports, Pakistani oil businessman Murtaza Lakhani is among the new targets on the sanctions list. The restrictions were imposed due to his involvement in projects related to the Russian energy sector. In addition, the Mercantile & Maritime Group, a company linked to his business, was also sanctioned.

As a reminder, on Tuesday, December 9, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the ideologist of the “Russian world” Alexander Dugin.

As reported, on December 18, the European Union decided to introduce new restrictive measures against the Russian “shadow fleet”, adding 41 more oil tankers to the sanctions list.
