Grenades and explosives: what is found in the bodies of the deceased after repatriation
During the initial examination of the bodies of Ukrainian servicemen returned as part of the repatriation, law enforcement officers repeatedly found explosive objects, including grenades.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Taras Tarasenko, Deputy Head of the Investigation Department – Head of the Department for Investigation of Crimes Against Life and Health of the Main Police Department in Kirovohrad Region.
According to him, after the bodies are returned, investigators first check for any objects that could pose a threat to specialists.
“Such cases have occurred repeatedly. We have found explosive objects, grenades and other things, so we are working as carefully as possible,” Tarasenko said.
In parallel, law enforcement officers are searching for personal belongings of the deceased that could help identify them. These include documents, mobile phones, military badges, bank cards, and other items.
After that, investigators conduct a detailed examination of the bodies, recording special features, tattoos, clothing, and other signs that may assist in identification.
The police also reported that during repatriation, there are cases when the remains of several people are mixed up. Such facts are established both during the initial examination and according to the results of DNA examinations. In such situations, law enforcement officers, together with forensic experts, carry out segmentation of the remains for further identification.
