In London, police detained Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg during a demonstration in support of members of the pro-Palestinian organization Palestine Action, which is banned in the UK.
The BBC reports this.
According to law enforcement, Thunberg was detained for displaying a poster supporting an organization whose activities are banned under British counter-terrorism laws.
In July, the UK government banned Palestine Action after its activists infiltrated the country’s largest airbase, RAF Brize Norton, and damaged two Voyager military aircraft. A total of eight activists are accused of infiltrating military and defense facilities associated with Israel. The charges were filed before the organization was officially banned.
Following their arrest, several activists went on hunger strike. One of them refused food for over 50 days, resulting in him and other protesters being hospitalized.
Greta Thunberg called the detainees “political prisoners” and called on the British authorities to release them on bail, lift the ban on Palestine Action, and ensure free communication.
The protest was held with the participation of the protest group “Prisoners for Palestine.” During the demonstration, activists also doused the building of Aspen Insurance, which is accused of collaborating with the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems, with red paint and blocked it.
Incidentally, Israel deported Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg for the second time after she and dozens of foreign activists were detained while attempting to break the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.
As is well known, in June, Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel after participating in an attempt to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip . She was aboard the vessel Madleen, which Israeli forces intercepted near the maritime border. The day before, Israeli forces intercepted the vessel Madleen, carrying Greta Thunberg , who was attempting to “break through” to the blockaded Gaza Strip.
