Growing espionage and sabotage: Russia has intensified hybrid attacks against Germany

Germany has reported an increase in hybrid attacks from Russia, which include espionage, sabotage and other security threats. The level of such actions has increased significantly after 2022, and even possible assassinations are not excluded among the tools.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The head of the agency, Sinan Selen, said foreign players were showing a greater willingness to take risks and were using a wider range of methods. He said that extreme scenarios were also being considered among the potential threats.

“‘Assassination operations’ are also possible,” said Sinan Selen.

Berlin acknowledges that Russia sees Germany as one of its main adversaries. The main targets of external operations have been identified as the logistics sector, the defense industry, and technology companies.

After 2022, according to German intelligence agencies, Russia significantly intensified its hybrid actions. This is a comprehensive strategy that combines cyberattacks, disinformation, espionage, and sabotage to influence the situation in Europe.

Particular attention is paid to information operations and influence on electoral processes. In these conditions, Germany emphasizes the need to create a comprehensive system for responding to hybrid threats.

Similar trends were previously recorded by Swedish intelligence services, which, according to estimates, indicates the expansion of Russia’s hybrid activity in Europe.

By the way, Russia has intensified hybrid attacks against European countries , forcing them to strengthen defense and security measures. These include both individual incidents and large-scale operations that show signs of strategic preparation.

Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb howled that Russia is waging not only a classic war against Ukraine, but also a broad hybrid campaign against European countries.

The day before, military commentator Hamish de Bretton-Gordon reported that the deployment of Royal Air Force units to Belgium to protect its airspace and critical infrastructure is perhaps the most obvious sign that London and its NATO allies are already in a state of hybrid war with Russia .
