GUR named 17 Russian scientists working on military technologies

According to intelligence, Russian universities and research institutions are cooperating with the Russian Ministry of Defense and enterprises of the military-industrial complex. Scientists are involved in state programs to create weapons, develop military technologies, and find replacement components to which Russia has lost access due to sanctions.

At the same time, some of these institutions and specialists continue to contact the international scientific community. This includes, in particular, joint research, grant programs, and participation in international conferences.

In July, the US Department of Defense added more than 30 Russian institutes and other institutions to a list of organizations whose activities pose a threat to US national security. Washington also banned cooperation with them and their employees.

Information about 17 specialists was published by the GUR in the “Engineers of Aggression” section of the “War and Sanctions” portal.

Among them are employees of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, where the Center for Artificial Intelligence Technologies operates with a laboratory of special-purpose digital technologies. Among the laboratory’s partners are the holding “High-precision Complexes” and the Design Bureau of Instrument-Making named after Academician A. G. Shipunov.

The list also included professors and associate professors from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

According to intelligence, these specialists are working on turbine blades for aircraft engines, materials and coatings for drones and spacecraft, as well as semiconductor manufacturing technologies.

The GUR separately mentioned the heads of the Research Center for Unmanned Aviation Systems of the M. E. Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute. Their work is related to the creation of standards for drones and their control systems using artificial intelligence.

The intelligence service noted that the experience that Russian scientists gain through international contacts can be used in the future to develop and modernize weapons.

“They are transferring the experience gained through such cooperation to Russian institutions, where it will be used in the future not only to create and modernize weapons, but also to form Russia’s strategic advantage in the modern technological arms race,” the GUR reported.

In this regard, Ukrainian intelligence called on international partners to tighten restrictions on scientific institutions linked to Russia, Iran, and North Korea, as well as to strengthen control over compliance with sanctions.

In particular, the GUR emphasizes that international scientific cooperation should not be used to develop the military potential of aggressor states.
