The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has published a detailed analysis of the new Russian strike drone “Geran-5”, including a 3D model, components and tactical and technical characteristics. According to intelligence, the drone resembles the Iranian Karrar, and also has most of the blocks identical to other “Gerans”, and can be launched from a Su-25 attack aircraft.

This was reported by the press service of the GUR.

The War&Sanctions portal published a complete technical portrait of the Geran-5, including an interactive 3D model, components, and electronic component base.

The first photos and basic details of this UAV were revealed by intelligence last week. The report states that the drone resembles the Iranian Karrar, and most of the blocks are identical to similar blocks from other “geraniums”. The enemy is also working on the possibility of launching the drone from a Su-25 attack aircraft.

The main characteristics of the “Geranium-5” include:

  • full take-off weight 850 kg;
  • cruising speed of 450–600 km/h, which exceeds the performance of the Geran-3;
  • flight duration is about 2 hours;
  • estimated range up to 950 km;
  • maximum altitude of 6 km, actual recorded use from 200 m to 3 km.

The power plant uses a Chinese TELEFLY TF-TJ2000A turbojet engine with a thrust of 200 kgf. The drone has components similar to other “geraniums”, in particular the FCU flight controller, the SADRA/MINSOO inertial navigation system, the “Comet-M12” satellite navigation system with a 12-element CRP antenna, the Tracker V3 telemetry data transmission system based on the Raspberry microcomputer and 3G/LTE modems, and the Xingkai Tech XK-F358 MESH modem.

The fuselage skin, wings and tail are made of carbon fiber, the power structure is made of aluminum profile and iron. The enemy uses the experimental “E” series to mark the aircraft, similar to the “Gerani-2” modifications with R-60 missiles and MANPADS.

The identified electronic component base originates from three countries — China, the United States, and Germany. The GUR also released another 105 foreign-made electronic components identified in the Russian-made Geran-2 UAV, Zala T-20, and the Kh-32 air-to-surface cruise missile.

The expansion of the range of Russian weapons made from Iranian prototypes and the continued use of the component base of manufacturers from countries of the free world, according to the GUR, indicates the need to strengthen efforts to block aggressor states’ access to technology.

By the way, on January 15, the fact of Russian troops controlling a BM-35 attack drone via the Starlink system was recorded for the first time.

It was previously reported that Russian troops first used a Shahed drone equipped with a man-portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS).

Recall that the Russian occupiers began equipping Shahed kamikaze drones with infrared searchlights to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defense at night.
