Hackers attacked the NBU, Channel 5 and aBank: details

Several cyberattacks have been recorded in Ukraine. Hackers hacked the online store of the National Bank of Ukraine, carried out a DDoS attack on Channel 5, and conducted a large-scale operation against aBank.

Hacking of the NBU online store

The National Bank of Ukraine has reported a cyberattack on a contractor that services an online store of numismatic products. As a result, the site became temporarily unavailable.

According to the NBU, attackers were able to access customers’ personal data – names, phone numbers, email addresses and delivery addresses. At the same time, the regulator emphasized that payment card details and other financial data were not affected.

The NBU warned that stolen contact information could be used for phishing attacks, and urged users to be careful.

DDoS attack on Channel 5

The editorial staff of Channel 5 reported a massive DDoS attack. The intensity reached 150-200 thousand requests per minute from various countries, including Asia, Europe, and the USA.

The channel’s IT specialists stabilized the resource’s operation. The SBU Cybersecurity Situation Center joined the response.

Cyberattack on aBank

aBank announced that on the night of February 15-16, it suffered one of the largest cyberattacks in its history. Some customers faced unauthorized withdrawals of funds.

The bank reported that the hackers used a new scheme that had not previously been recorded in the banking system. The financial institution promptly returned the debited funds to customers and eliminated the vulnerability.

The bank assured that there are currently no risks for customers, and their funds are safe.
