Harry Potter Series Officially in the Works: HBO Shows First Still

HBO has released the first stills from the filming of the Harry Potter series. The authors also published a photo of actor Dominic McLaughlin in the role of the main character.

The series will star 11-year-old Scottish debut actor Dominic McLoughlin. He was chosen after a global open casting call involving over 30,000 children from all over the world.

In the first official shot, McLaughlin appeared in Hogwarts uniform, complete with the iconic lightning bolt scar and round glasses.

“HBO’s Harry Potter series is already in production,” the creators officially announced on social media.

Joining him in the lead roles are Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, forming a new generation of the beloved trio. The supporting cast includes stars Nick Frost (Gagrid), Paapa Essidue (Severus Snape), John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore) and Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall).

HBO also revealed the names of the new actors who have joined the series. Neville Longbottom will be played by Rory Wilmot, Harry’s cousin Dudley Dursley will be played by Amos Kitson, Hogwarts broom teacher Madam Gooch will be played by Louise Brealey, and wand maker Ollivander will be played by Anton Lesser.

According to Deadline , the series will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. Each season of the series will focus on one book in the Harry Potter series. Filming for the second season is planned for 2026.

Earlier, HBO officially confirmed the first actors who will play key characters in the series based on the Harry Potter books.
