Hasid, who was mobilized after Rosh Hashanah, was sent to serve in Odessa

Israeli Hasid Yonatan Karlinsky, who was mobilized in Ukraine after a pilgrimage to Uman for Rosh Hashanah, will serve as a military doctor at a medical center in Odessa. He was previously expected to be sent to a unit near Kharkiv.

According to the publication, the decision to serve in Odessa was made after the intervention of the Chief Rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine, Avraham Wolf, who held negotiations with Ukrainian military officials.

The medical center where Karlinsky will serve is located near the local Jewish community. He will also be provided with kosher meals and access to a synagogue, mikvah, and other community services.

Karlinsky had previously feared that he might be sent as a military medic to a unit near Kharkiv. According to preliminary information from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, this was the place of service that was initially considered for him.

Karlinsky, 49, was born in Ukraine but has lived in Israel for many years. After this year’s pilgrimage to Uman, he tried to leave Ukraine across the border with Romania.

Later, the State Border Service explained the circumstances of his detention . The State Border Service of Ukraine stated that Karlinsky also has Ukrainian citizenship and was wanted in the military conscription records, so he was transferred to the National Police. The border guards emphasized that mobilization was not carried out directly at the checkpoint.
