Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has made a loud statement about US President Donald Trump, calling him a Soviet and Russian agent. According to de Sousa, Trump’s policies actually work in favor of the Kremlin and harm the unity of the West in countering Russian aggression.
This is reported by Portugal Pulse .
It is noted that the speech took place during a youth training event, where the Portuguese leader explained his vision of the current style of political leadership in the United States. De Sousa emphasized that Trump embodies a new type of leadership, one that is based not on rational strategy or alliance principles, but on emotions and the pursuit of personal gain.
“Objectively, the supreme leader of the world’s leading superpower is a Soviet or Russian agent. He acts as an agent,” the Portuguese president said.
He emphasized that this “union” has nothing to do with economic or ideological values, but is only a pragmatic tool of the Kremlin to change the balance of power in the world.
Marcelo Rebelo de Souza separately drew attention to the fact that Washington’s current policy has actually given Russia a strategic advantage in the war against Ukraine. According to him, the US under Trump has stopped acting as an ally of Kyiv and Europe, and instead positions itself more as a mediator focused on dialogue with Moscow.
The Portuguese President noted that such a strategy leaves Ukraine and the European Union countries in a difficult situation, as they are forced to independently seek their participation in key international negotiations. This, according to de Sousa, seriously weakens the Western front in countering Russian aggression.
By the way, US President Donald Trump believes that Ukraine will have to accept peace on Russia’s terms in order to end the war.
At the same time , the United States plans to take on only a “minimal” role in providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
Earlier, political scientist Taras Zagorodny reported that Western allies continue to feed Ukraine “fantastic stories about security guarantees,” and talk that American investments will become a kind of protection for Ukraine does not correspond to reality, as evidenced in particular by the weak US response to the attack on its plant in Mukachevo.
