NABU and SAPO have released new recordings in the energy corruption case, dubbed “Midas.” The tapes feature former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
This became known from a video released by anti-corruption authorities.
The recordings refer to a scheme called “Shlagbaum”. According to the investigation, it involves “kickbacks” paid to Energoatom so that the company would pay for completed contracts more quickly. Galushchenko is called Sigismund on the tapes and is considered the “main element” of this scheme.
The recordings also show them discussing the money that was supposed to be transferred to Sigismund. One of the suspects, known as Sugarman (Olexander Zukerman), says that Galushchenko allegedly wanted to leave his position as minister.
“Yes. He’s been there for four years, f*ck, that’s actually a lot (I’m talking about Galushchenko’s four-year tenure as Minister of Energy – ed.). Well, he dreams of going somewhere as an ambassador,” Sugarman says on the recording.
