He guided KABs and drones in the Slavyansk direction: SBU detained a GRU agent

The SBU counterintelligence has detained a man in the Donetsk region suspected of collaborating with Russian military intelligence. According to investigators, he helped the Russians prepare strikes with guided bombs and drones in the Slavyansk direction.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, the Russian special services recruited a resident of a front-line village who was evading mobilization. The man came to the attention of the Russians through anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.

After being recruited, the suspect began collecting information about the whereabouts of Ukrainian soldiers. To do this, he asked his wife about the soldiers she might have seen in Sloviansk and neighboring areas.

The man saved the information he received on his smartphone and marked the landmarks on Google Maps in order to later transfer the information to the Russian side.

The SBU claims that the suspect maintained contact with Russian military intelligence through a representative of the Joint Strategic Command of the Moscow Military District. They used anonymous messenger accounts to communicate.

SBU officers exposed the man at the initial stage of cooperation with the Russian special services and detained him at his place of residence. During the search, law enforcement officers seized a phone and a tablet, which, according to the investigation, contain evidence of cooperation with the Russian Federation.

The man was charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason under martial law. The court remanded him in custody without bail.

If convicted, the suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
