He was preparing a murder for the “anniversary of May 9”: an assassination attempt on a high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was prevented in Odessa

The SBU counterintelligence in Odessa detained a Russian agent who was preparing an assassination attempt on a high-ranking official of the Ukrainian Navy. According to the investigation, Russian special services planned to carry out the assassination on May 9 to create informational background favorable to the Kremlin.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
The SBU noted that the detention was made possible thanks to the proactive work of the special services and a citizen’s notification of a suspicious person to the “hotline”.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator of the attack was a repeat offender from the Donetsk region, who had previously served a sentence for premeditated murder. The investigation found that the man was recruited by Russian special services after looking for “easy money” in Telegram channels.
After being recruited, the agent arrived in Odessa and rented an apartment to prepare for the crime. He tracked the residence of the Ukrainian serviceman, conducted additional reconnaissance of the territory, and chose a place for an ambush.
According to the SBU, the killer planned to shoot the officer with a machine gun while the soldier was leaving the yard in a car.
“According to the plan of Russian special services, the officer’s murder was to take place on May 9 in order to create an informational background favorable to the Kremlin for the celebration of “Victory Day,” the SBU reported.
Counterintelligence officers and special forces of the Central Intelligence Agency “Alpha” of the SBU detained the suspect on May 8. During the searches, law enforcement officers seized an AK-74 assault rifle, 2 loaded magazines, and a mobile phone through which the agent maintained contact with the Russian handler.
The special service also reported that the detainee obtained the weapon from caches at coordinates provided by a representative of the Russian Federation. He used a bag with a double bottom to conceal the weapon.
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 2 of Article 111 — high treason committed under martial law;
- Part 3 of Article 15, Article 258 — an unfinished attempt to commit a terrorist act.
The suspect is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
By the way, the military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented Russia’s attempt to eliminate the commander of the Third Army Corps of the Defense Forces, Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky . As part of the special operation, law enforcement officers detained a Russian agent who was preparing a targeted missile and bomb strike on his location in the combat zone.
Recall that the Security Service of Ukraine announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in the center of Kropyvnytskyi. According to the investigation, an agent of the Russian special services was preparing an assassination attempt on one of the civil servants.
