He was preparing an assassination attempt on the Ukrainian Armed Forces: an agent of the Russian FSB was detained in Zaporizhia
Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the contract killing of a reconnaissance soldier of the Defense Forces in Zaporizhia. An FSB agent was detained in the city, who was preparing to eliminate a fighter of the elite reconnaissance unit of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The attacker planned to plant an improvised explosive device in the military’s apartment and detonate it remotely. As a result of preemptive actions, SBU officers exposed his intentions during the preparation stage of the terrorist attack.
According to the investigation, the crime was prepared by a 44-year-old occupational safety engineer at a local medical facility recruited by the FSB. He rented out a room in which the serviceman lived during a rotation after completing combat missions in the southern direction.
“Having reported this to the FSB, the agent was tasked with taking the explosives from the cache and planting them near the front door of the serviceman’s apartment,” the SBU noted.
During a search of the detainee’s residence, law enforcement officers seized an electric detonator, components for an explosive device, and other evidence of his contacts with the FSB.
The investigation established that the person involved was recruited through his acquaintance, who lives in temporarily occupied Melitopol and cooperates with the Russian special services. In addition to the main task, the agent transmitted to the enemy geolocation data of operating energy facilities in Zaporizhia, which the occupiers planned to attack with guided bombs.
Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason under martial law. The suspect is being held without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
