He was preparing Russian strikes in three regions of Ukraine at once: SBU detained a Russian intelligence agent
The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed and detained a Russian military intelligence agent who was preparing coordinates for air strikes in the Volyn, Rivne, and Ternopil regions. According to the investigation, he was collecting information about critical infrastructure to prepare missile strikes.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
Counterintelligence officers determined that the agent was trying to provide Russia with geolocations of energy and aviation infrastructure facilities that the occupiers planned to use for a new series of attacks. He was also collecting information about mobile phone towers and key Ukrzaliznytsia facilities with the highest intensity of freight train traffic.
SBU officers documented the suspect’s activities at the initial stage of his intelligence work and detained him at his place of residence.
According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be a 42-year-old immigrant from the Luhansk region recruited by Russia. In order to receive “protection” from mobilization, he got a job at a critically important enterprise in the region.
The man came to the attention of Russian special services through a relative who lives in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. After remote recruitment, he traveled around the western regions of Ukraine in his own car with a video recorder turned on and recorded the coordinates of strategic objects. He transferred the received video recordings to the curator from the Russian side.
During the searches, a smartphone containing evidence of intelligence activities and contacts with a representative of Russian military intelligence, whose identity had already been established by SBU officers, was seized from the suspect.
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
By the way, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented an attempted sabotage at a railway infrastructure facility in Khmelnytskyi region . Law enforcement officers detained a minor who was involved by Russian special services in preparing a bomb at the Ukrzaliznytsia station.
It was previously reported that the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was preparing a missile strike on the Kropyvnytskyi thermal power plant . The suspect turned out to be a 16-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi.
