The director of the US National Counterterrorism Center , Joe Kent, has resigned due to disagreement with the Donald Trump administration’s policy on war against Iran.
Kent himself reported this on the social network X.
In a statement , he noted that he could not support US military actions and considered them unjustified.
“I cannot in good conscience support a war in Iran. Iran posed no immediate threat to our country,” Kent wrote .
He also stated that the decision to go to war was made under the influence of Israel and its allies in the United States.
“It is obvious that we started this war because of pressure from Israel and its influential American lobby ,” he noted .
Kent added that the information campaign surrounding Iran is reminiscent of the situation before the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 .
“The arguments in favor of striking Iran and the promises of a quick victory are reminiscent of discussions on the eve of the war in Iraq,” he stressed .
According to him , as a combat veteran , he cannot support a new war that does not meet the interests of American society.
“I cannot support sending the next generation to a war that does not benefit the American people,” Kent said .
In his address to Trump, he called for a review of Iran policy and a change of course.
“You can change course and chart a new path for our nation,” he noted .
According to media reports , Joe Kent previously served as an advisor to US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He is also a veteran of the Iraq War .
His first wife was killed in 2019 during a terrorist attack in the Syrian city of Manbij.
Earlier it was reported that Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei rejected proposals for a ceasefire and reduction of tensions with the United States.
Recall that internal contradictions among Republicans are intensifying against the backdrop of protracted military actions and the lack of a clear plan from the leader of the political force, Donald Trump. The situation is hitting the American economy, provoking a rift between the United States and Europe, and could lead to impeachment.
