Heat is not for everyone: what will happen to heating in the event of new attacks by the Russian Federation?

Amid the cold snap in Ukraine, the start of the heating season is approaching. In some regions, heat will begin to be supplied this week – in particular, in the Rivne region, radiators will become warm from September 24 in hospitals, schools, and kindergartens.

This was stated by the mayor of Varash, Oleksandr Menzula. Decisions on heating residential buildings will be made by condominium associations and management companies.

In general, according to local authorities, preparations for winter are approaching the final stage across the country. In Kyiv, 90% of residential buildings are already ready for the heating season. If the temperature steadily drops below +8°C for three days, heat will begin to be supplied centrally.

The heating season traditionally starts in mid-October, but in the face of a full-scale war and possible attacks on infrastructure, the authorities are keeping the situation under control. They have promised to respond promptly in the event of a sharp cold snap in the regions.

Recall that Russia has recently intensified attacks on the Ukrainian energy grid, in particular on gas installations, which are key components of the country’s heating system.

In addition, Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy and Infrastructure Programs at the Razumkov Center, reported that there is a serious threat of disruption of the heating season in certain regions in Ukraine due to massive Russian shelling of energy infrastructure.
