In Ukraine, a new education system for high school students began testing on September 1. Students in grades 10-12 will be able to choose a profile, study the subjects they need in depth, and partially shape their own program. So far, the new model is being tested in 150 lyceums, and it is planned to be launched throughout the country from September 2027.

This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

One of the main changes will be specialized education. High school students will be able to choose a major depending on their interests and the profession they plan to pursue in the future.

In grade 10, students will be given time to get used to the new system. If a student realizes that he has chosen the wrong direction, he will be able to change his profile.

After graduating from grade 9, there will be two main paths. A student will be able to enter an academic lyceum and continue their studies in grades 10-12, or choose college.

Each academic lyceum must offer at least three profiles. The main areas include natural sciences and mathematics, linguistics and literature, and social and humanities.

In addition to core subjects, students will be able to choose additional courses. This way, students will have more opportunities to focus on the disciplines they need for further education and future profession.

Schools themselves will also change. New STEM spaces and laboratories are being created in 250 educational institutions from 22 regions. The state has allocated 1.9 billion hryvnias for their construction.

In such spaces, students will be able to conduct experiments, complete practical tasks, and work on their own projects.

During the first year, the new system will be tested in 150 lyceums. After that, the Ministry of Education and Science plans to take into account the results and refine the model before launching it across Ukraine from September 1, 2027.

Textbooks will also be gradually updated. New textbooks for grade 10 are expected to appear in 2027, for grade 11 in 2028, and for grade 12 in 2029.
