US President Donald Trump met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his visit to China, where the two sides agreed on new trade and investment mechanisms. Washington and Beijing also agreed on a number of decisions on trade, rare earths, and international security.

This was reported by the White House press service .

The press release notes that Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed to build a “constructive relationship of strategic stability” based on reciprocity and fairness.

The parties also agreed to create 2 new structures:

  • US-China Trade Council;
  • The US-China Investment Council.

The White House said the Trade Council would allow the two governments to coordinate bilateral trade in non-sensitive goods. The Investment Council is intended to serve as a platform for intergovernmental discussions on investment issues.

In addition, the US and China agreed on a common position on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

“Both leaders agreed that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, called for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and agreed that no country or organization should impose tariffs,” the White House said in a statement.

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping also reaffirmed their shared goal of denuclearizing North Korea.

As part of the economic agreements, China has agreed to resolve the issue of supplying rare earth metals and critical minerals to the United States. These include yttrium, scandium, neodymium, and indium.

Separately, the White House said China has approved an initial purchase of 200 Boeing planes for Chinese airlines. The statement noted that this is China’s first commitment to purchase American Boeing aircraft since 2017. Beijing also agreed to purchase at least $17 billion in American agricultural products each year in 2026, 2027 and 2028.

In addition, China has restored access to American beef, continuing the registration of more than 400 American enterprises and adding new facilities. The Chinese side has also agreed to resume imports of poultry from US states recognized as free of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing demonstrated the return of the US and China to strategic confrontation after a period of trade tensions. Despite negotiations and some economic agreements, the parties have not resolved key differences in bilateral relations.

It is worth recalling that Xi Jinping and Donald Trump met in Beijing on May 15. After the talks, the Chinese side separately emphasized the need for diplomatic dialogue to resolve international conflicts.
