On Sunday, September 21, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom officially recognized the State of Palestine.
This was announced by the Prime Ministers of Canada Mark Carney and Australia Anthony Albanese , the press service of the British government .
The act released by Albanese states that Australia recognizes the legitimate and long-standing aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their own state.
He added that the document demonstrates Australia’s commitment to resolving the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
The UK also stressed that the decision to recognize is an impetus for lasting peace for the Israeli and Palestinian peoples.
“The historic decision, announced together with Canada and Australia, was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation on the ground in Gaza, Israel’s expansion of its illegal settlements in the West Bank, and Hamas’s holding of hostages,” the British government’s press service noted.
At the same time, it is added that the decision does not apply to Hamas, which is “a terrorist organization that seeks the destruction of Israel.”
“Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace with recognized borders is the complete opposite of their hateful vision,” the statement said.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to officially recognize the state of Palestine.
By the way, Belgium intends to officially recognize the independence of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September and, in parallel, impose sanctions against the Israeli government.
