Hit a man and left him on the side of the road: a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Odessa region

In the Odessa region, law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances of a tragic road accident that occurred at night in the village of Lymanske, Rozdilnyanskyi district.

This was reported by the press service of the Odessa region police.

The fatal accident occurred on the night of October 6 in the village of Lymanske. According to preliminary police data, the 50-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz Vito hit a 33-year-old man who got out in front of the vehicle to stop it.

As a result of the impact, the victim received injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene. The driver immediately drove away after the collision without providing assistance to the victim.

As noted by the head of the relevant department of the Main Police Department in the Odessa region, Dmytro Sluta, the police quickly began searching for the driver. Already in the morning, law enforcement officers managed to establish his identity and location. The check showed that at the time of the accident the man was sober.

An investigative and operational group was working at the scene, which included specialists in investigating traffic accidents from the Main Department of National Police of the Odessa region, as well as operatives from the Rozdilnyanskyi District Police Department.

Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, i.e. violation of road traffic safety rules or transport operation, which led to the death of a person. According to the law, such a crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years with possible deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of up to three years or without it.

As part of the investigation, a number of forensic examinations will be conducted to help establish the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The police once again call on all road users to strictly adhere to safety rules. Drivers are asked not to exceed speed, be attentive while driving, and respond to changes in the traffic situation in a timely manner. Pedestrians are reminded of the need to move on sidewalks or roadsides, and in the dark – to be sure to use reflective elements to be visible on the road.

It was previously reported that one person died and four others were injured in a collision between a car and a minibus in the Kyiv region . The accident occurred on September 29 near the village of Chervone, Kovalivka territorial community.

By the way, in the city of Snyatyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region, on the evening of September 7 , two young men died in a road accident : a 19-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger, and two more minors were injured.
