Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest burned in Germany, causing significant damage.
A fire broke out at Adolf Hitler’s former residence, the Eagle’s Nest, in the Bavarian Alps in southeastern Germany. The building sustained significant damage, and police have detained a possible suspect.

The Associated Press reports this.

According to the local tourism board, it is unknown whether parts of the structure can be saved. The fire alarm went off around 9:15 PM on Friday. When rescuers arrived at the site near Berchtesgaden, flames were still visible as they climbed to the building, located at an altitude of 1,834 meters above sea level.

Due to its difficult location, getting firefighting equipment into the building was difficult. Firefighters were still fighting the fire on Saturday morning. Firefighters found no one inside, and preliminary reports indicate no injuries.

Police have detained one person, considered a possible suspect. However, his involvement in the fire has not yet been established.

The building, officially known as the Kehlsteinhaus, was built in 1938 for Adolf Hitler. Since 1952, it has housed a café and restaurant, as well as an exhibition dedicated to the building’s history. The establishment was closed on Friday before the fire broke out.
